One Home to Keep
Hendersonville. The town's been dead for years and everyone's got an opinion about its corpse.
I've kept my head down and my love life private for twenty years. I'm content hiding in plain sight. Then Aaron pitches an idea to sell our mill to outside developers and bring in the flatlander. I despise him, even if I can't keep my eyes off the way his overalls hug that belly.
The town thinks we're perfect enemies. He thinks I'm stuck in the past and I think he's selling our future. If this feud is real, then why does he keep finding excuses to talk to me?
The vote's in a week and Hendersonville has turned our debate into a full fledged war. Gladys is organizing committees. Rita's hosting a pie bake-off for the cause. Even Sheryl is campaigning like our lives depend on it. While the town dukes it out, Aaron and I are finding we have more in common than either of us ever believed.
Twenty years of hiding and this infuriating contractor is making me reconsider why.

One Reason to Stay
I never believed I belonged in Firefly Valley.
Everyone in this town has an opinion on my love life. Mom wants grandkids. The cribbage crew wants to play matchmaker. I know they mean well. But some days I wonder if I’d be happier where nobody knows my name, my obsession with flannel, and that unfortunate incident from second grade.
Then a bear of a man moves to town, hoping to escape the hustle of city life. Chef. Single dad. Belly and tattoos. The rumor mill kicks into overdrive, and half of Firefly is staging a meet-cute. Little do they know, we’ve already christened the back room of my comic shop.
My plans to move falter every time he enters the room. My comic convention is around the corner and my sexy DILF’s past comes waltzing into town. I’m torn between the city and the home that could be. If only Firefly could see me the way he does.
Who knew a small town could be this over the top? Me. I knew.
More Reason to Stay
Firefly wasn’t a vacation. It was an escape.
Nobody warned me about the bed and breakfast owners with opinions, the grocery store lady with questions, or the strip teases for charity. In Hollywood, nobody cares who you are. In Firefly Valley, nobody cares who you were.
Then there’s the rugged flannel wearing handyman with absolutely zero interest in my IMDb page.
Bobby protects my ego from the media by pretending to be my boyfriend. He’s the calm in a storm, and I’m not hating our fake relationship, which is the most unsettling thing that’s ever happened. And I’ve survived three tabloid scandals.
The role of a lifetime is still on the table. Bobby’s still in Firefly. And for the first time, I want to ignore opportunity and follow my heart.
Every Reason to Stay
I wasn’t ready, but he never stopped waiting.
Twenty years ago, under a sky of fireworks, I kissed my first boy. What are the chances a one-night stand would reconnect me with a childhood crush? I preach radical love, but nothing that exciting ever happens to me.
When my grandmother passed, I figured I’d host a completely normal Viking funeral and then head back to my dull life in the city. When I discover her secret life as a globe-trotting adventurer, I question when I traded passion for predictability.
I should have been careful when I asked for excitement.
Between the library closing, reconnecting with my estranged sister, and… did I mention getting Firefly naked? I can barely breathe as I get sucked into small-town shenanigans. Then there’s Tyler, an adventure waiting to happen.
It took twenty years... but now I’m ready.
One Chance to Stay
I nearly died in a snowstorm. He rescued me.
I’ve spent years behind a bar listening to everyone else’s problems. I pretend I have it all figured out. Then a grumpy recluse who prefers grunts and scoffs to actual words made me realize I never asked what I wanted out of life.
He’s rough around the edges and built for solitude. I’m full of nervous chatter and determined to break down his walls. It only takes one night with bourbon and big band music in the background, and I find myself wanting something I can’t quite put into words.
I’m confused. He’s scared. It all changes with an invitation to dance.
Now I’m attending a small town wedding involving elf ears and Santa beards, surviving ladies with literal axes to grind. Turns out I’m not as straight as I thought. And this unexpected detour might be exactly what I needed.
I came to Firefly to figure out what’s next. Now I’m wondering if next… might be us.
More Chances to Stay
In Firefly Valley, getting lost might be the only way home.
Firefly Valley chewed me up and spat me out. I’m only back to help Mum. That’s it. Clean up the house, fix what needed fixing, and leave before the town drags me into their gossip. I have no interest in reconnecting. I left Firefly in the rearview mirror for a good reason.
Or so I thought.
I am not the only lost soul trying to make sense of life. Nick is an outsider, determined to confront where everything went wrong. He sees me. Not the baggage. Not the whispers about my past. Just me. Silence feels a little less lonely when he’s around.
I go camping to find some peace and quiet. Nick surprises me by tagging along. Somewhere between swimming butt-naked under the stars and sharing a sleeping bag, I find a reason to stop running from the pain of my past. Good news, nobody got eaten by a bear.
I thought I had put this damned town behind me. It’s still waiting with open arms.
Every Chance to Stay
I am supposed to retire.
One final performance. One last lip synch. A tasteful exit before forty turns me into that queen. Mabel Syrup is drag royalty. Firefly welcomes her with open arms. Mike, on the other hand, is shy and awkward.
The problem is, he is me. I am Mike.
Then a buttoned up CEO walks into Firefly, enamored by a town trying to throw its first pride parade. He’s closeted and achingly ordinary. He thinks Mike is the bravest man in the world, living as his authentic self. He’s not looking at Mabel. He’s looking at Mike.
Did I mention I have no idea who I am anymore?
Firefly wants majestic and mouthy Mabel. He wants whoever I am underneath the performance. I’m not sure those are different people anymore. I’m scared if I give the town what it wants, I’ll scare off Mr. CEO. He’s not ready to see me in all my drag glory.
Because maybe Mabel isn’t the mask. Maybe she’s part of my truth.
